Job Search Workshops

In order to support a group affected by restructure, a trans national transport and logistics company used Akenham Career Management to devise a programme of support that would give those affected the confidence and ability to present themselves successfully in the labour market.

The programme of support included a one day intensive overview of the job market and an introduction to the techniques of securing ongoing employment. Delegates asked us to focus on:

Individual needs analysis - Identifying their skills and looking at how these could be transferred between different industries and businesses.

CV development - Types of CVs, Structure, layout, content and covering letter.

Routes into the jobs market – answering adverts, using agencies, direct approaches, networking and using the Internet to its best effect.

Successful Interview techniques -Preparation, killer questions, self presentation, following up.

Running the Job search campaign - Organising your space and time – The job of getting a job.

The one day workshop finished with each individual drawing up an action plan of what they needed to concentrate on as immediate priorities. This was complimented by a 121 session where individuals worked through their priorities with a consultant.  This session made sure they were making best use of their time and were achieving positive results.

The outcome of this support was extremely positive for the company and the individuals involved. The organisation was seen favourably by the individuals for the standard of support provided. The feedback from the workshop showed that we managed to provide a solid grounding in self presentation that gave those attending the motivation to attack the labour market with confidence. The feedback from the accompanying 121 sessions showed that individuals had overcome particular sticking points in their campaign – whether it was tailoring an application to a particular employer or giving them more of a focus on where they should focus their time.

The best achievement was that in a difficult job market, individuals were getting a number of interviews on the strength of their approach.
